The Lascar volcano, about 20 years ago, hosted one of the region’s main sulfur deposits. This mineral, used in the mining processes at Chuquicamata, is essential in various industries, and its presence in the Lascar volcano generated both historical and economic interest in the area.
We will pick you up at your hotel to begin our adventure to the base of Lascar Volcano. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the desert and the mountains that surround this remote area. Upon reaching the base, in front of the tranquil Lejia Lagoon, we’ll stop for breakfast while we prepare for the ascent.
The hike to the crater is challenging but very rewarding. Over the course of 2 to 3 hours (3 km), you will gradually gain altitude, enjoying the region’s unique landscapes. Once at the crater, you’ll have the opportunity to closely observe the volcanic activity, including its constant fumaroles, a reminder of the powerful energy of nature. Although semi-active, visiting Lascar Volcano is safe. Finally, to complete our tour, we will begin our descent, which lasts approximately 1.5 hours and will bring us back to San Pedro de Atacama, with unforgettable memories.
